Cyber sigilism is a modern tattoo style that mixes the flow of tribal tattoos with futuristic, tech-inspired designs. It features sharp lines, geometric shapes, and patterns that mimic computer circuits.
What is the Meaning of a Cyber Sigilism Tattoo?
Cyber sigilism tattoos mean different things to different people. Broken down, the word “cyber” refers to our online digital world and technology.
A “sigil” (from the Latin sigillum meaning "seal”) is a personal symbol created to represent a specific desire, intention, or goal. Often, sigils are “charged,” or activated, with a specific intention as a mystical sign (a practice traditionally found in some forms of witchcraft, specifically in Medieval times).
Because of this, some people feel that cyber sigilism tattoos offer connections to specific ideas, manifestations, or angels and demons in the spiritual realm. For others, it’s an abstract style of art with a futuristic feel. Either way, easy to see how the cyber sigilism tattoos have emerged as a new iteration of tribal tattoos, which were often used to represent the history or status of the wearer.
How to Draw Cyber Sigilism
Drawing cyber sigilism is all about clean lines and geometric shapes. (Using the shapes to maintain the form of the design is how you keep it easy to read.) Start with symmetrical shapes like triangles and diamonds that connect together, then add layers and dot work to make it more complex.
Like with tribal tattoos, cyber sigilism is meant to perfectly follow the flow of the body. For example, you often see these tattoos wrapping around the shoulder, chest, ribs, or hips by lining up with the natural “S-curves” of the muscles.
