Whats the best way to care for a tattoo once it starts to scab/flake/peel?

I usualy put lotion on them once or twice a day. Wondering if there better ways?

that's about it. I usually give it 3 days before I do anything other than an antibiotic creme. After that, good old hand lotion. Been doing it for 25 years and it hasn't failed me yet.

I always kept it lubed up for about a week then let it dry out, it will flake a bit, but very little scabbing if any at all. I will still continue to wash it about twice a day after the first week, for another week. I always felt the one major part of the healing process was keeping it lubed in the beginning to avoid major scabbing.

Bepanthen immediately after the tattoo, then for around 4 days after.
Very little scab, and because its for babies nappy rash, very little itching also. Try it, its brilliant stuff.

bepanthen for 2 days then nothing, did get a free sample of tattoo goo other week and that works well too

100% Bepanthen. I use a thin layer twice a day for the first week, then once a day for the second week and have only ever had very light flaking and no loss of colour at all.

yep bepanthen every time, 2 - 3 times a day for the first week then as required thereafter

Bepanthen is good, but i have found (TATTOO AFTERCARE) to be the best though, check out the link www.tattooaftercare.co.uk
little to no scabbing, no itch, use a thin layer 2-4 times daily, this can also be used on old tattoo's to revitalise, i always recomend this aftercare you can use this from day one of your aftercare and no need to switch to anything else like lotion unlike tattoo goo.

Bepanthen every time ! i shudder at some of the "shit" some people have put on there tattoos over the years !

Ive never heard of Bepanthen.

I always use triple antibiotic or A&D ointment until it starts to scab and then use a a dye/fragrance free lotion.

Must be a UK thing. Is it like A&D Ointment? Its for rashes too.

I used A&D on my last professional tat and when it scabbed it came off like a snake shedding skin...one big sheet! But its also waterproof so its hard to wash the tats.

Ill check some stores next time Im out and see if I can find bepanthen.

no nothing like a&d ointment thats more of a vaseline type stuff which also says do not put on open wound

i use bepanthem for the first 3-4 days then move onto palmers cocoa butter find it works wonders and all of mine are still looking pretty good oldest is 6 years which i realise isnt that old but still looks good compared to some of the guys i know who havent really bothered putting much on theres

my 2p worth is firstly is too try to prevent the scab for forming i use Bepanthen which is good in my opinion but i used to use Preparation H i used to swear buy it i personally had awesome results with it the cream not the gel no scab no iching, i could get my tattoo healed within a week trust me, but apparantly thay have changed the ingredients now but dont kno how true it is..

so if yu scab how formed i use lotions like Lubriderm,Vitamin E cream and E45 fragrance free work ok for me...

people will have there choice of tattoo aftercare creams lotions ect, but saying that there is a few to stay away from..

Light coat of Triple Antibiotic in the AM and one in the PM bout all I ever do for about a week or so...try not to over think it too much!!!!!

Seems like everybody is different. I have always did a&d for a few days then regular non scented lotion. Always works great for me. My wife on the other hand will get a infection every time shes uses any a&d or ointment or cream or whatever. She wraps hers for about 5 days and that is it. She heals up great using the wrap method. I myself break out using the wrap method, only tried once. Just seems like everyone's body is different.

i think its important to point out for Bepanthen that if you decide to use it you need the ointment and not the cream...the cream will dry it out and scab it up and once that happens if the scab starts to crack you will have a hard time keeping infection setting in.. i know of some people that have used the cream and it has worked out but risky

As soon as scabbing starts, its very necessary to keep the skin moist to avoid cracking of skin and over scabbing. Use a good aqua based moisturizer at least 3 times a day and remember to wash your hands as well as tat before applying the moisturizer each time.
